You know how, with terrorism, we freeze suspected funding sources? We need to do that everywhere. Make the parents feel some pain here.

As long as he has the ability to simply just get it out of impound just to do it again, he probably will

Such a waste. Seize it and auction it off.

... could face further fines levied by ICBC as well as a hike in his insurance rate, which already sits at $15,000 per year.
I’m already pissed off at paying less than 1/10th of that amount.
Then again, the kid’s car is around 20x more than my car brand new.

We really should set fines based on income or better yet, wealth. Other places do it: Finland, Home of the $103,000 Speeding Ticket

The only problem being that wealth doesn’t translate to income for many (it does correlate highly). That’s a major problem with economic policy. Especially as more Boomers retire and sit on assets that have to last 30 more years.
Income-based...sure! Or a more detailed means test. Something that makes people feel pain. How about proportional to the value of the car?

So clearly a young male novice driver and yet only $15k a year to insure a really expensive car?
I think the story is that I am overpaying for my 2008 Acura.

I wonder where the money comes from.
Oh, I already know. Lower Mainland, one of the best places to launder money and hide capital in the world. Buy your way in and behave with impunity. No excuse to not have progressive fines (as no government is going to crack down on sketchy offshore-sourced money).

For a lot of this demographic in that specific area , a simple audit of the origins of the money would be great. Then destroy them financially.

Would that really hurt the kid though? Not like he paid for it.

Kind of what I proposed in another comment thread. Investigate them under the assumption of wrongdoing. Excessively flashy wealth can be a part of probable cause when investigating the mob, drug dealers, etc.

Cool thought, I’d love to see it. I am not optimistic . Those who have made all the money via pay for play residency (luckiest generation with real estate used to hide/launder money ) also wrote the policies allowing the money in. Not to mention if this segment is chased, the so-called left will call it racist (apparently dirty money is a race) , while the so-called right will call it class warfare (as money is supposed to solve all ills) .
It’s a huge thing in metro Seattle too, where large swaths of real estate have been consumed by cash buyers with overseas monetary origins.

I’d rather see him wrap it around a telephone pole than some kid on a crosswalk.
I have zero sympathy in a case like this.

Right, I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up seeing this thing wrapped around a pole or building. It’s a shame really.

So if Decay gets pulled over in the $200 miata, he pays 25 cents?

Yep! That’ll teach him!
(honestly, speeding tickets in a perfect meritocracy would be based on a number of factors, namely the weight of the vehicle as a proxy for potential damage it could do)
